The 16mm Immersive Laboratory will provide participants with the opportunity to learn traditional techniques of shooting on 16mm film, both color and black and white reversal, while collaboratively creating in an immersive process over seven days. This will take place during their stay in the rural setting of Casa do Xisto, located in the village of Macieira de Rates, Barcelos.

THE SOUND FEATURE
This year introduces a sonic exploration component: participants will work with a range of different microphones, a biofeedback sensor, and a MIDI synthesizer connected to any chosen plant, allowing the generation and modulation of sound in real time.
These tools will be used to capture and interpret signals from the living environment of Casa do Xisto, expanding the dialogue between cinema, ecology, and expanded sound practices.

A laboratory of free expression that crosses artistic languages, privileging the preservation of cinematographic arts and fostering social inclusion through filmmaking.
We facilitate access to cinema and culture in a low population density environment, combining nature and the rural environment with the creative and communal role of art.

After the screening of a series of films produced in the five editions of Casa do Xisto’s 16mm Immersive Lab, various non-toxic film development processes will be discussed in the presence of Catarina de Sousa, the lab’s founder, and director Ricardo Leite.
This session, open to the public and free access, will take place at 2pm on November 23rd at Café do Batalha.
