The sixth edition of the 16mm Immersive Laboratory at Casa do Xisto took place in July 2024, in partnership with Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival, continuing the project’s consolidation within the circuit of cinematic creation and exhibition.

This edition stood out for the introduction of an expanded sound component, with the participation of artist Lula Pena, who proposed an experimental approach to sound through the use of different types of microphones, a biofeedback sensor and a MIDI synthesiser connected to plants, enabling the generation and modulation of sound in real time from living organisms.

At the same time, the laboratory welcomed Craig Scheihing, from MONO NO AWARE (New York), who guided participants through traditional colour processing techniques using Ektachrome, reinforcing the technical and historical dimension of working with film.

The residency culminated in a public presentation in the garden of Casa do Xisto, in the form of an open-air cinema screening, for which Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival brought festival guests to the site. The films produced were screened with live sound accompaniment by Lula Pena, in a performative and collective moment that deepened the project’s sensory dimension and brought together image, sound and landscape within a single cinematic gesture.
